Haha has many meanings and some of them are a little diffrent.
•ha ha - hee-haw: a loud laugh that sounds like a horse neighing
•HAHAHAHA - Laughter is an audible expression or the appearance of happiness, or an inward feeling of joy (laughing on the inside). It may ensue (as a physiological reaction) from jokes, tickling or other stimuli. It is in most cases a very pleasant sensation
•ha-ha - A ditch, acting as a sunken fence, designed to invisibly separate farmland with animals from lawns and park; An approximation of the sound of laughter

I think you mostly use the HaHa as a punctuation. I rarely see you use a period,or exclamation point, your sentences are usually ended with a HaHa.
